About Me

I (Robert Gane) am a qualified sparky who has been fixing electrical installations from Canberra, to Tasmania and across the world. I have a passion to fix things and am involved with multiple charities where my expertise hopefully makes a life changing impact.

Born in the beautiful isle of Tasmania I studied Engineering in Hobart and graduated in 2006. From there I worked in construction management, spending the bulk of my engineering career on the MONA museum. From there I jumped north to Canberra changing to a more hands-on career as an Electrical Apprentice. Working for ElectroGroup I learned a broad range of skills working in domestic, commercial and industrial environments. After qualifying in 2015 I worked for ActewAGL and became a part-time teacher at Global Energy Training Solutions – passing on my skills to the next generation of apprentices. I started The Belconnen Electrician in 2021 and have been working cheerfully for customers of the Belconnen and surrounding areas. I pride myself on providing Experienced, Reliable Efficient work while maintaining high standards of quality.

Volunteer Work

Volunteer Involvement

I have volunteered with multiple organisations, contributing my expertise to good causes:

  • I have an ongoing volunteer role with MERCY SHIPS; an organisation that provides free medical care in Africa via hospital ships. I served on the Africa Mercy Ship as one of the ship’s Electricians in Cameroon (6 months in 2018) and Senegal (2 months in 2019). I continues to volunteer as a Mercy Ship advocate and am available for presentations in and around Canberra.
  • I am a volunteer with the community group ELECTRIFY CANBERRA whose focus is to electrify Canberran homes, rentals and apartments. The aim of the group is to help people convert from gas and reduce their electric bills. I have volunteered at multiple events and provided free advice for countless Canberrans.
  • I volunteer my electrical skills at electrical REPAIR CAFES across Canberra. My main commitment is with the Hawker Men’s Shed who hold repair cafes every 3 months. I have also served with Community Toolbox, SEE Change and other community groups.
  • I am a passionate believer in better political representation. I have volunteered my time with the office of SENATOR POCOCK and took on a part time admin role for 3 years. While currently not serving in the office, I still have ongoing involvement with Senator Pocock and Independant candidate for Bean – Jessie Price.
  • The Belconnen Electrician has done PRO-BONO electrical work around Canberra. If you know people in need of an electrician but unable to afford an electrician, please reach out and see if I am is able to help.
